Having issues connecting iPhone for testing Xcode 5.0

I am having issues connecting an iPhone 5 for testing and debugging in Xcode 5.0. When the device is connected and Xcode opens, the system hangs.

Mac Mini Running OSX Version 10.8.5, 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM. What can I do to resolve this? The Mac goes to a totally unusable state when the device is connected and Xcode is open. The problem persists only if Xcode is open while the device is connected. There is no problem in connecting the device or in working of Xcode independantly. I don't even have to run the program on the device for the Mac to hang, just connect the device, that is all.

Re: iOS 6 File Type Association Issues

Thanks for posting this. Have been tearing my hair out trying to figure why my app stopped launching. Definitely introduced in iOS 6.

iOS 6 File Type Association Issues

I've run into a problem that appears to be restricted just to iOS 6 devices -- iOS 5 seems to handle this situation well.

I'm building an application that exports JSON-formatted files with a custom extension via email, and should also be able to open the file attachment from within mobile mail using the "Open with" dialog. Basically just a way to send your app's settings to other users of the app via email. These are small files as well -- less than 200KB.

The problem I've run into is that even though my application name appears in the list of available applications to open the attachment, iOS 6 devices fail to open my application. In the device logs, the following gets reported:

LaunchServices: Invalid LSOpenOperation request - No applications found to open document

I've been looking for anything online about this kind of issue, but haven't found any reference to that console output. I'm also positive that I've set up the Document Type and Exported UTI items correctly -- again this all works fine in iOS 5. I've included the values defined for the Document Type and UTI below:

Document Type

============

CFBundleDocumentTypes

                         CFBuldlerTypeRole

                         Editor

                         CFBundleTypeExtensions

                                 exportedModel

                         CFBundleTypeIconFiles

                                 icon

                         CFBundleTypeName

                         Exported Model

                         LSHandlerRank

                         Owner

                         LSItemContentTypes

                                 com.company.applicationName.exportedModel

Exported UTI

==========

UTExportedTypeDeclarations

      UTTypeConformsTo

        public.text

      UTTypeDescription

      Exported Model

      UTTypeIdentifier

      com.company.applicationName.exportedModel

      UTTypeTagSpecification

        public.filename-extension

        exportedModel

        public.mime-type

        application/octet-stream

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior in iOS 6? Could there be a cache of file type associations that is messing the "Open with" operation up?

USPS issues "TSP Fund" App security warning from US Gov

This warning was issued by the government about the following app.

Avoid the app

Posted 3/14/13 at 1:55 p.m.

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) officials are urging federal employees to steer clear of a new third-party application that may be phishing for personal information about their TSP government retirement accounts.

A free iPhone app called TSP Funds, currently being offered through the Apple App store, asks TSP participants for their account login information. “This app is not being offered through the TSP and the TSP does not recommend using this application to access your TSP account,” said a TSP statement. “Providing this information could result in a security risk to your account.”

For employees who have downloaded TSP Funds, the Postal Service recommends deleting the app and changing the passwords to their TSP accounts.

The Government Executive’s app for iPhone and Android, which features a TSP ticker with up-to-date information on all TSP funds, does not ask for account information.

Xcode build issues and the sim only shows the splash/load screen??

Hi. have built an app that turns page to page, 3rd page has 4 buttons on it each button leads to a uiwebview. all my code has no issues. i believe i've coded it right.

My issue is when it builds it only builds the loading/splash screen, it used to load the 3 screens, the next buttons worked and the back buttons worked. then i built the page with the 4 buttons to webviews. it worked.

I'm getting a 'thread signal 1 sigabrt issue when the sim loads

Can anyone help solve this.

Also when coding a back button do you have to #import "said view controller.h" that you want to go back to in the .m file. I have followed you tube tutorials so far. but now they aren't helping. heres how my code looks for the back/forward buttons etc. (the buttons with names lead to the webview pages).

I type the -(IBAction) in the .h file. then the code in .m. but am i right to import the other .h files in the top of the .m?

My app might run ok when i get past the loading screen issue!!

Thanks for looking !!

Re: Terminal java compile/command issues

I have no idea what the problem was, but a full system restore fixed it! Thanks for trying to help!

Terminal java compile/command issues

Basically every time I start my computer or don't use terminal for a short period of time it takes around two minutes to run a java compile/run command, as far as I can tell all other non java terminal commands are fine. After the first two minute wait my terminal returns to normal, and compiling/running programs takes a few seconds at most. This is extremely annoying as you can imagine! I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out, and thanks for lookin!

Re: Terminal java compile/command issues

Given your description, it probably has more to do with the JVM than your terminal.

Kinect Mac OSX 10.6.8 Issues

Hi everyone,

I really want to use my Kinect with Processing 2.0, but I keep getting malloc errors like this one:

java(12328,0x7fff70269cc0) malloc: *** error for object 0x1020319e8: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.

*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug

I have tried multiple drivers for the Kinect: libfreenect and SensorKinect, after installing the proper libusb-devel, libusb, libusb-freenect, etc libraries.  I have also tried multiple versions of OpenNI, and NITE.

The strange thing is that in each configuration, the samples/examples will work for a short period and do what they are supposed to do but will then throw the above malloc error.  It is strange because EVERY configuration I've tried throws these kinds of errors.  These occur when I run some SimpleOpenNI examples IN Processing and also when I run non-Processing examples outside of Processing, through the terminal (i.e. samples that come with NITE or OpenNI).

The fact that it is the same error in all configurations makes me think it could be some sort of 64 bit versus 32 bit mess up?  I've also tried running Processing in both 32 and 64 bit modes.  I am running 64 bit Java (don't know if this is relevant - I don't actually think so), most recent update for OSX 10.6.8.  I think these problems also might be related to the libusb library, upon which the Kinect drivers all seem to depend.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas?  I'm getting really discouraged!  Thank you so much!

Safari JavaScript Issues on iPad on with iOS6

I have an older HTML application that I am supporting, and admittedly, some of the JavaScript techniques are old, but I don't have the time to re-write the application at this time, it is 100,000's of lines of code.

A little background:

  • the code has been unchanged in several years
  • the code works on OSX (10.8.2) in Safari
  • the code works in Win 7 in Safari (5.1.7)

Unfortunately, several of my users have upgraded to iOS6 on the iPad and the code does not work in either Safari or Chrome.

The application will pop-up a window/tab based on the onChange event of a select element or from the onClick of a button.

The onClick from the button does not trigger the Safari "Allow Pop-up", but the onChange event does.

Once the pop-up window/tab has been opened (via one of the two methods above), the user makes a selection on screen and clicks a button which (ultimately) triggers a window.opener function.

I can not ever get the window.opener function to trigger when the pop-up window was triggered from the onChange (select element).

The window.opener will usually (maybe always, but I seem to remember it didn't once or twice) trigger if the pop-up window remains open, but the user manually puts focus on the "opener" window.

Again this works (and has worked) for many years on many different browser, unfortunatey, most of my users are now on iPads.

Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated.

BTW first post, so please be kind.
