I am trying to enroll in the iOS developer as a business. I am not sure what I have done wrong, but I cant get after they ask me for the DUNS number. After finding the number, I encounter an error that says:
The D-U-N-S® Number you entered belongs to a branch/division.
Please use your headquarters information to enroll. Only legal entities are allowed to enroll in an Apple Developer Program as a company/organization.
Could someone help me? Thanks.

That thread, in turn, points you to Erica Sadun's site. She's a well-regarded iOS developer and author on iPhone development.
It sounds like it is possible, but only by using a private framework. Thus you can do it, but if you try to submit an app to the store that uses a private framework it will be rejected.
So, for your own private use it's possible.
Is there an officially supported way to get imei?

After completely the 'D-U-N-S Number Lookup for Company Enrollment' form here:

I get this error message:
Please go back to the previous page, or quit your browser and try your request again."
Is this problem going to be fixed? Is there any other way to get a DUNS number without having to go through D&B?
Any help/ feedback would be greatly appreciated.

After tons of hair pulling and confusion and D&B people telling me that magic problems will magically go away with the transfer of money...
It turns out that I was receiving the "DUNS Number not accepted" error because there wasn't a space at the end of my company name in the online enterprise application form.
Really.
Really, really.
Seriously.
So, if you have no idea why your DUNS number is a blocking issue after 'forever' - try putting a space at the end of your company's name.
Worked like magic - thanks to the Apple Developer Support person who said "yeah, you might want to try... I know it sounds crazy but..."
Anyone out there know if you can open an developer account without a duns number?
